Among the winners is Ren\u00e9 Depestre, to whom the jury awarded the Robert Sabatier Goncourt for Poetry for his entire poetic work. Born in Jacmel, Ren\u00e9 Depestre went through the 20th century as an engaged witness and an unclassifiable poet. Forced into exile under the dictatorship of Fran\u00e7ois Duvalier, he lived successively in Cuba, Europe, and finally settled in France, where he has resided since the 1980s. This trajectory as an exile, far from silencing his voice, has nourished it with a unique energy combining Negritude, surrealism, sensuality, and political resistance.His poetic work, begun in 1945 with \u00c9tincelles, published in Port-au-Prince, has unfolded over more than seven decades. Collections such as V\u00e9g\u00e9tations de clart\u00e9, Journal d’un animal marin, or Anthologie personnelle testify to a poetry rooted in flesh and history, inhabited by Caribbean landscapes, the memory of slavery, and the desire for light.
