It highlights the potential of a youth that transforms, innovates, and undertakes, but remains underutilized.”You have the production, you are the actors, you have rights but you also have responsibilities. The future is ahead of you and we are with you,” said Mr. Michon, addressing the young people present during the presentation of the report. He also justified the choice of presenting this report in a university center, emphasizing that it is a place for reflection and debate.According to the data reported in the report, people aged 15-39 represent 42.8% of the total population, or more than 5 million individuals, a considerable force. Already, 35% of the country’s businesses are owned by individuals under 35. However, only 9 to 11% of these businesses are formally registered, while 91% of Haitian workers operate in the informal economy. The unemployment rate for young people aged 15 to 24 reaches 37.5% in 2025, more than double the Caribbean average. Faced with the obstacles encountered by Haitian youth, the report’s authors reject any defeatist or fatalistic attitude. They prefer to focus on young people who have launched innovative and successful initiatives, encouraging youth to draw inspiration from these models that have overcome systemic obstacles. To unlock the potential of Haitian youth, the report proposes a roadmap structured in three phases. In the short term, it recommends laying the foundations. The document advocates the launch of a participatory process for co-formulating a national strategic framework for youth, led by civil society and university networks.

At the same time, the report recommends the deployment of female mentorship programs, with a goal of 500 active mentor-mentee pairs within 18 months, as well as the establishment of 50% parity quotas in all public entrepreneurship support programs. Emphasis should also be placed on professional integration through technological agriculture, with the creation of twenty local ecosystems in secure areas, incorporating artificial intelligence tools and digital traceability. In the medium term, the report recommends the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. It calls for the creation of a unified digital platform for business registration, accessible from a smartphone, capable of reducing administrative delays to less than seven days.

The document also recommends the establishment of a low-cost FabLab in each department to train 2,000 young innovators per year. These FabLabs should promote the development of solutions adapted to local realities. The report also foresees inclusive fintech solutions, based on alternative credit scoring, to enable young entrepreneurs excluded from the traditional banking system, especially young women living in rural areas, among whom only 3% currently access higher education, to have access to financing.

In the long term, the report advocates for the institutionalization of this transformation. It proposes the creation of a National Youth Innovation Council, endowed with real advisory powers on public policies, as well as a Diaspora Impact Fund aiming to mobilize between 50 and 100 million dollars over ten years. This fund would aim to channel diaspora savings towards youth entrepreneurship, with strengthened traceability. The report finally recalls that 2.2 million citizens aged 18 to 27 have never voted in their lives, which constitutes a major democratic issue. With the first general elections since 2016 approaching, the document emphasizes that this generation “is not asking to be saved,” but asks “to be recognized, listened to, and respected in the polls as well as in public policies.” Kesner Pharel, CEO of Group Croissance, on the sidelines of the report’s presentation, provided an overview of the economic situation and the challenges facing Haitian youth. He notably highlighted the main issues that decision-makers and young people will need to address in order to reverse the current trend. The presentation of the report was followed by a discussion moderated by Mr. Pharel. Participants in this discussion included Mario Andrésol, Vijonet Demero, as well as the young people Stéphanie Moïse and Tayler Ansy Nhaïléï Tassy Lazarre. At the end of the exchanges, the participants, divided into two groups, thought about the commitments to make to support this transformation.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, the report entitled ‘The Silent Metamorphosis: How Haitian Youth Are Reinventing the Country’s Future’ The United Nations Development…

{"googlesitekit_rrm_CAow67bgCw:productID":"
[48,3

57
post-3784","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-breaking-news","category-politics
["GET
