Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9 chaired, this Monday, May 18, 2026, the official flag-raising ceremony organized at the National Palace on the occasion of the 223rd anniversary of the creation of the Haitian flag and University Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony took place in the presence of several members of the government, representatives of the diplomatic corps, university authorities, as well as the country’s security forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address to the Nation, the head of government recalled the historical significance of the Congress of Arcahaie on May 18, 1803, considered one of the main founding acts of national history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister mentioned the role of Jean-Jacques Dessalines as well as the symbolic gesture of Catherine Flon, which led to the union of blue and red to create the Haitian bicolor.According to Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9, the Haitian flag represents much more than a mere national symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It constitutes, he stated, a testament to the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom, sovereignty, and independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of government also urged citizens to revive the spirit of Arcahaie in order to defend national unity, restore state authority, and promote knowledge in the face of the challenges currently confronting Haiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reaffirming the commitments of his administration, he assured that the government will continue its efforts to strengthen security, consolidate republican institutions, and organize credible elections in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
