Armed attacks are no longer limited to traditional hotspots; they increasingly affect communities that previously served as places of refuge, leaving vulnerable populations with fewer and fewer safe options as humanitarian needs continue to grow. ‘The crisis is no longer confined to specific neighborhoods or regions. As violence spreads to areas once considered safe, more and more people are forced to flee repeatedly, often with nowhere to go.’added Mr. Goodstein.

In May, the surge of violence in Cité Soleil caused the displacement of more than 18,000 people in a few days, raising for the first time the number of internally displaced persons in Port-au-Prince to over 300,000.

More than 110,000 Haitians forcibly returned to the country
Most took shelter in overcrowded spontaneous camps or sought refuge with already vulnerable host communities.A few weeks earlier, armed attacks in the South-East department of Haiti had displaced more than 5,000 people in a region previously considered a refuge for those fleeing insecurity elsewhere in the country.

According to the UN agency, these displacements illustrate a worrying trend, as communities that once offered safety are increasingly becoming points of concentration for displaced people themselves.

A record number of nearly 1.5 million people have been forced to flee gang violence in Haiti to seek refuge elsewhere in the country, a United Nations agency said on…

{"googlesitekit_rrm_CAow67bgCw:productID":"
[232

57
post-4713","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-insecurity
["GET
