The IDB Group has pledged to provide up to $25 billion between 2025 and 2030 to support national programs that align with the policy framework of the Global Alliance and is on track to meet this commitment.

In 2025, the IDB approved $4.1 billion in aligned operations and is expected to approve an additional $5.8 billion in 2026, including $2 billion in targeted cash transfers, bringing the total to nearly $10 billion for the first two years.During the meeting, President Goldfajn highlighted the importance of private-sector-driven growth to create jobs and support a sustainable reduction in poverty. He also stressed the need to speed up progress toward ending extreme poverty by expanding coverage and improving the effectiveness of adaptive social protection programs, particularly cash transfers, for the most vulnerable populations.

To support this goal, the Global Alliance is developing a framework to better align funding with national implementation plans, matching the needs of countries with the resources available from multilateral, bilateral, philanthropic, humanitarian, and climate finance partners. The proposed approach would provide a voluntary mechanism to better integrate financing into national plans focused on adaptive social protection and resilient local food systems.

The IDB Group will contribute to designing the mechanism based on its experience with collaborative financing platforms and will facilitate the involvement of other regional development banks and stakeholders. This commitment is already translating into concrete actions at the national level.

In Haiti, the IDB Group supports the government’s cash transfer programs as part of a larger effort to strengthen maternal, newborn, and child health, as well as nutrition and school feeding. These efforts are being carried out in coordination with the World Bank, United Nations agencies, notably the World Food Programme, and partners such as ‘Education Above All’ and the ‘Global Partnership for Education,’ with the support of the Alliance’s Support Mechanism. This program serves as an initial example of the country-led implementation approach that the Global Alliance wants to support and expand.

Launched at the G20 Summit in Brazil in 2024, the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty aims to speed up progress toward ending hunger and poverty through the coordinated support of its members for large-scale, evidence-based national policies and programs. The Alliance now has more than 215 members, including over 107 countries, 31 international organizations, 14 international financial institutions, and more than 63 philanthropic and non-governmental organizations. Its Support Mechanism, hosted by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome and operating independently, helps countries build and implement partnerships to fight hunger and poverty.

President Goldfajn mentioned the IDB Group’s contribution to developing an integrated financing framework to support national initiatives.
