On the sidelines of the UN Peacebuilding Week, the Minister of Planning called for international cooperation that is more in line with Haiti’s needs<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Sandra Paulemon, presented the main priorities of the Haitian government during a meeting held on June 24 with Elizabeth Spehar, on the sidelines of the Peacebuilding Week organized at the United Nations headquarters in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This meeting is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen dialogue with international partners and mobilize more consistent support for national priorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the discussions, Sandra Paulemon outlined the three main areas of government action defined by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aim\u00e9: restoring security, economic and social recovery, and organizing free, credible, inclusive, and democratic elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister also took advantage of this mission to establish initial contact with the officials of the United Nations Peacebuilding FundAccording to the Ministry of Planning, this initiative aims to strengthen cooperation between Haiti and international funding mechanisms designed to support stabilization and development processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sandra Paulemon advocated for better coordination of international aid so that the interventions of foreign partners better meet the needs identified by Haitian authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said that humanitarian programs should gradually shift towards an approach focused on sustainable development and creating tangible impacts for the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talking about the security situation, the minister pointed out that peacebuilding can’t rely solely on security responses..According to her, a lasting return to stability also involves improving access to education, essential services, economic opportunities, and regional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister also outlined the main directions of the National Program for Stabilization, Economic, Social, and Territorial Recovery, which is currently being finalized.The program serves as the government’s main strategic framework to support the country’s recovery and promote a sustainable resumption of economic and social activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elizabeth Spehar, for her part, praised the vision presented by the Haitian authorities and reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to continue supporting Haiti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UN official noted that the organization remains dedicated to supporting the implementation of high-impact programs aimed at improving the living conditions of communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This meeting takes place as part of the first edition of the United Nations Peacebuilding Week, organized around the theme ‘Partnerships for Innovation, Inclusion, and Impact.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Haitian government, this mission represents a new opportunity to promote international cooperation that is more closely aligned with national priorities and the country’s real needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
