The ceremony, led by the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Vijonet D\u00e9m\u00e9ro, took place in the presence of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) resident representative in Haiti, the representative of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the MENFP Director General, several departmental directors, ministry staff, as well as representatives from universities and technical and financial partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">With funding of 29.7 million US dollars, the PARC is planned to run from 2026 to 2029 in six departments of the country to modernize the Haitian education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">A reform to meet the challenges of Haitian schools<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">In her speech, the Resident Representative of the IDB in Haiti, Ms. Corinne Cathala, described the launch of PARC as a \u2018decisive step for the future of education in Haiti,\u2019 noting that it reflects a shared desire to build \u2018a modern, structured education system that meets the country\u2019s challenges and needs.\u2019 Facing ongoing crises and insecurity, she emphasized the urgent need to sustainably strengthen the education sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Today, schools can\u2019t just pass on knowledge. They must help young people develop critical thinking, gain digital skills, and encourage creativity, collaboration, and citizenship education,\u2019 she said, recalling that the IDB\u2019s portfolio in education has amounted to nearly 140 million US dollars since 2022.She also highlighted the results already achieved thanks to this support, including the rewriting of the new preschool and first two cycles of primary school curricula, the improvement of the Quality Assurance System, the approval of improvement plans in more than a hundred public schools, and the expansion of the national school feeding program to benefit over 88,000 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The PARC to improve learning and access to school<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Funded by the Global Partnership for Education ($23.7 million) and the Inter-American Development Bank ($6 million), the PARC plans to roll out the new school programs, produce teaching materials, strengthen teacher training, and improve learning conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Eventually, the project will allow one million students to benefit from the new school programs, 2,000 public primary schools to implement the new curriculum, 600 teachers and 300 preschool educators to be certified, while 67,000 children will benefit from the school feeding program and another 20,000 will have access to remote tutoring and socio-emotional support.&#8221;In concrete terms, the project will support the rollout of new school curricula, the production of quality educational resources, the strengthening of teachers&#8217; capacities, and the improvement of learning conditions to promote students&#8217; academic success,&#8221; said the BID representative, adding that &#8220;no reform can succeed without everyone&#8217;s commitment.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The MENFP wants to rebuild the Haitian education system<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking, the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Dr. Vijonet D\u00e9m\u00e9ro, spoke about the conclusions of the meetings on the future of education, held on May 5 and 6, 2026, in Washington, which, according to him, allowed for a real curricular overhaul of the Haitian education system.The head of the MENFP announced several priority projects: restructuring the education system, revising the curriculum framework, standardizing the number of school days to ensure fairness among schools, integrating digital education, citizenship education, financial education, mental health, and school well-being, as well as strengthening student support and recognizing teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo reform will be set aside,\u201d said Dr. Vijonet D\u00e9m\u00e9ro, noting that PARC is a major lever to sustainably strengthen the education system, improve learning conditions, and give teachers the tools they need to succeed in this transformation.
