In a statement released on Friday, July 3, “the Prime Minister’s Office and the Provisional Electoral Council (PEC) inform the general public that, following several working sessions held in a spirit of dialogue, transparency, and institutional responsibility, the two institutions have reached an agreement on the budget to fund electoral operations.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, these discussions, led under the authority of the Prime Minister and the president of the Provisional Electoral Council, received technical support from the teams at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), who conducted a thorough review of the various components of the electoral budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government claims that this assessment was carried out \u2018based on realistic assumptions, taking into account, in particular, the logistical and organizational requirements of the election, the gradual improvement of the security situation, the resumption of traffic in some currently hard-to-reach areas, as well as the state’s financial capacities and the principles of sound public finance management.\u2019\u201cAt the end of this work, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Provisional Electoral Council jointly agreed on an amount of one hundred and twenty million (120,000,000) US dollars for the implementation of electoral operations. This budget can be revised, if needed, by mutual decision of the two institutions,\u201d explains the statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the government, this agreement represents a key step in preparing for upcoming elections. \u201cIt reflects the shared commitment of the government and the Provisional Electoral Council to ensure a credible, transparent, inclusive electoral process that meets democratic standards, while also ensuring the rigorous and efficient use of public resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government said it reaffirms its commitment to mobilize, within the limits of the State’s capacities and with the support of its national and international partners, the necessary resources to ensure the financing of the different phases of the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
