The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has extended the registration period for political organizations wishing to join together to participate in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Out of the 316 accredited political organizations, 227 have already joined one of the 17 political groups registered with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). The electoral body now wants to convince the remaining 89 parties to rally to a group before the first round of elections, scheduled for December 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the registration period for party groupings, the Electoral Council decided to give a little extra time to stragglers and those still undecided.In a statement released on Monday, the CEP said that in order to encourage as many political parties as possible to form groups, and then to merge, and within the timeframe set by the election calendar, it is granting the following extensions: formation of political party groups: from August 4 to 6, 2026; Publication of the final list of approved political party groups: August 8, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The electoral body emphasizes that the registration period for political alliances remains unchanged: from August 10 to 14, 2026.Several political parties, like EDE, Fanmi Lavalas, OPL, among others, have already stated that they do not plan to merge despite the economic incentives provided in the electoral decree for that purpose. They also believe they can comply with the provisions of Article 130 of the decree, which require political organizations to present 30,000 members in order to be allowed to submit their candidates for elective positions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
