The Haitian U20 team lost 5-3 on penalties to Costa Rica at the Concacaf U20 Championship, after a 1-1 score at the end of extra time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuauhtemoc Stadium hosted the clash between the Haiti U20 team and Costa Rica during the Concacaf U20 Championship on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. This match was the first quarterfinal of the competition. It was a duel between the second place team in Group A (Haiti) and the second place team in Group B (Mexico).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Haiti U20 team started the game in a 1-4-4-2 formation with Carlos Bre (#1) in goal. Alcim\u00e9 Arthur (#2, captain), Stanley Volcin (#3), Marckidens Tanis (#4), and Mikenlove Jean Jules (#15). Despite missing two games following his red card against the United States, Ra\u00fal Triana chose to play Stanley Volcin.In the middle of the field, Miguel Joseph (#5) was joined by Ramy Fabilus (#8). At the start of the second half, Ramy Fabilus tried his luck from outside the penalty area. That was the only move from the Haitians before Costa Rica scored. A huge mistake was about to relieve all the pressure on Costa Rica and put them in the opponent’s half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Haitian defender Stanley Volcin committed a foul inside Haiti’s penalty area. A foul against a player who posed no threat. Incredible but true! A monumental mistake! Yerlan Sosa equalized for Costa Rica in the 55th minute from a penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the 63rd minute, John Peter Charles came on for Ramy Fabilus. Four minutes later, Franco C\u00e9lestin surged down the right wing before crossing to Da-Benz Jacquet. The Black Eagle striker missed a clear chance when he was almost alone in front of the Ticos’ goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And that\u2019s not all! A shot from Da-Benz Jacquet was blocked by Ian O’rourke eight minutes after the hour mark. Clavens Exantus, on the rebound, aimed his shot, but it was deflected for a corner by O’rourke. Despite Nikola\u00ef Olivier Pierre coming on, Haiti never regained the lead.Franco C\u00e9lestin went out due to injury<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During extra time, Haiti dominated in the first few minutes. Mikenlove Jean Jules took a left-footed shot (93′). John Peter Charles shot with his right foot (94′) just like he did during the added time of the second half. All these shots went just a few centimeters past the Costa Rican goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kervens Romulus Junior, a player from Racing Club Ha\u00eftien, stepped onto the Estadio Cuauhtemoc pitch in place of Da-Benz Jacquet in the 97th minute. The latter forced O’rourke to dive to deflect a shot on target. A fantastic play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the 101st minute, Franco C\u00e9lestin stayed on the ground after a sprint against Yerlan Sosa. He was finally substituted by Elikenson Jean at the start of the second half of extra time.
