Their arrival brings new hopes to a department hard hit by insecurity, but it also raises high expectations regarding the results of this new force.

The city of independence welcomed another phase of the deployment of the Gang Suppression Force (FRG) this Thursday. Several vehicles and equipment meant for the force’s operations were unloaded during the day.On site, several Sri Lankan soldiers, members of the force, were seen alongside the unloaded equipment. At the same time, two helicopters from the mission carried out maneuvers in the city’s sky, giving this deployment operation a special visibility.

This arrival comes in a context where Haitian authorities are looking to strengthen the security setup in the Artibonite department and to reinforce the presence of the state in areas affected by the activities of armed groups.Reached by Le Nouvelliste, officials at the Gonaïves police station confirmed the purpose of the arrival of the equipment and the contingent. According to them, the equipment as well as the FRG members should be housed in a base located somewhere in the city.

The new force is expected to assist the PNH in security missions and operations aimed at combating armed groups present in the department.

This presence is a new part of the security response system and should, in particular, give security forces extra means to operate in areas where armed groups have gradually expanded their influence. Before this arrival, civilian representatives from the FRG visited the city at the beginning of the week. During their visit, they met with several local figures, representatives of organizations considered important, as well as local authorities. The discussions mainly focused on the work, role, and mission of the new force in the department. These exchanges come as the authorities try to make the FRG’s deployment part of a process that also involves local actors. For the people in the region, however, the issue goes beyond just deploying new vehicles or new soldiers. After several years marked by insecurity, expectations mainly focus on the ability of the forces involved to sustainably restore security and allow the population to return to a normal life.

On social media, the arrival of the FRG in Gonaïves is already causing a lot of reactions. Some users welcome the deployment and encourage the members of the new force to take action quickly.

Others, more skeptical, are particularly demanding. Several comments call on the FRG to deliver tangible results and to avoid, in their view, the mistakes made by the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS) led by Kenya. In public opinion, one idea keeps coming up: people don’t just want promises anymore, they want results. Expectations are even higher since Artibonite remains one of the departments most affected by armed group violence.

Beyond operations against armed groups, the success of the new setup will also be measured by its impact on daily life.

Free movement of people and goods, securing roadways, resuming economic activities, and the normal functioning of institutions are among the main concerns of the population.

The arrival of the FRG is therefore seen as a new promise of change for the region. But it also puts this force in front of a huge responsibility: turning its material deployment into concrete results on the ground quickly.

Vehicles, tactical equipment, and a contingent of Sri Lankan soldiers from the Gang Suppression Force (FRG) landed this Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the port of Sédrenn, northwest of the…

[232

57
post-6869","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-insecurity
["GET
