Banj, ISOC Haiti, ESIH, and the Association for Responsible AI signed a collaboration agreement to work on creating a national roadmap for artificial intelligence, taking an approach that fits the country’s realities and capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Haiti is starting a structured reflection on how to integrate artificial intelligence into its development. As part of the ProAI project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Banj, the Internet Society Haiti Chapter (ISOC Haiti), the \u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019Infotronique d\u2019Ha\u00efti (ESIH), and the Association for Responsible AI (ARAI) signed, on August 10, 2026, a cooperation agreement aimed at jointly developing a national roadmap for the responsible adoption of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The signing ceremony took place in the Philippe Dewez room at the IDB in Bourdon. The four organizations want to focus on a gradual approach that considers the resources available in Haiti and international experiences that could be adapted to the national context.Two preliminary documents were presented on this occasion. The first one offers a mapping of the Haitian artificial intelligence ecosystem. More than 40 actors are identified, with particular attention given to important components of Haitian reality, such as the diaspora, the informal sector, and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eight sectors are considered priorities for AI adoption: health, agriculture, fintech, education, risk management, commerce, governance, and energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second document is a guide dedicated to developing a national artificial intelligence strategy in countries with limited resources. It specifically suggests strengthening data governance and institutional capacities, while gradually advancing based on use cases that match the country’s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authors paid particular attention to the experiences of Rwanda, Benin, and Egypt. The document is also designed in alignment with Haiti’s 2025-2035 National Digital Strategy and UNESCO’s work on artificial intelligence in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The documents presented are not final. Public and private institutions, universities, civil society, the media, diaspora members, and experts will be able to contribute before they are finalized.A first period of comments is scheduled between August and September 2026. Consultations with the different stakeholders should then continue in 2026 and 2027, before consolidating the contributions. The national artificial intelligence roadmap for Haiti is planned for 2027-2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This approach is part of the ProAI program, launched in March 2026 and planned to last three years. The program aims, among other things, to train at least 125 professionals in AI-related skills, to create a network bringing together developers, institutions, academics, policymakers, and the diaspora, as well as to carry out three national awareness campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, the project doesn’t yet involve presenting a national strategy already adopted by the state. It’s a consultation and preparation process led by the four organizations, with the goal of producing a roadmap proposal adapted to the Haitian context.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
