Haitian director Samuel Suffren is selected for the Fabrique Cinéma 2026 with his feature film project, “Pays poète éternel.”
For several years, the name of Samuel Suffren has been appearing at major international film events. This year again, the Haitian director is taking another step by participating in Fabrique Cinéma 2026, a program led by the Institut français in partnership with the Cannes Festival and the Marché du Film. Through this selection, his project “Pays poète éternel” will benefit from support aimed at facilitating its development and fundraising.
Organized this year from May 12 to 21, Fabrique Cinéma highlights around ten first or second feature film projects at each edition, mostly from countries of the South. The program allows the selected directors to present their works to producers, distributors, and industry professionals present in Cannes. For Haiti, Samuel Suffren’s presence represents a new opportunity to make a cinematic voice, still too little visible on major stages, heard.With ‘Eternal Poet Country,’ the filmmaker tells the story of Anacacis, a teenage girl forced to leave school after her mother’s illness. Left to the streets, the young girl nevertheless tries to preserve her dream of becoming a writer. Produced in Creole and French by KitFilms, the feature film reflects an aspect rooted in Haitian reality, combining precariousness, resilience, and the quest for a future.
