Two men were killed and burned in an armed attack on Friday, May 1, 2026 in Malong, a locality in the communal section of Soursailles, in Kenscoff.
According to the available information, armed individuals, identified as members of the “Viv ansanm” coalition, attacked the area, killing Cheristin and Josué Fortuné, before setting fire to a house with their bodies inside.The attackers also kidnapped three people. Two of them managed to escape.
This attack comes a few days after the National Police of Haiti (PNH) stated that life was starting to return to normal in the commune of Kenscoff. In a report published on its Facebook page, the institution indicated that it had deployed a new “flawless” security system, supported by specialized units and soldiers from the Armed Forces of Haiti.
The PNH says it is increasing patrols and interventions in strategic areas, ensuring that several localities previously controlled by armed groups have been reclaimed, and that the strengthening of the police station, notably with agents from the 35th class, improves the capacity for intervention on the ground.
Speaking on the weekend morning show of Magik 9, the mayor of Kenscoff, Massillon Jean, stated that no significant progress has been recorded for nearly three months.”Since February 7, the bandits have not conquered new territories, but they continue to occupy those they already controlled,” he stated.
According to him, only the city center is experiencing relative calm. “Schools, public markets, and health centers are functioning there. But the municipality is not limited to the city center,” he clarified.
The mayor points out that several districts remain under the control of armed groups, notably Nouvelle-Touraine, Bongard, Platon Fusillé, and part of Belle Fontaine.
“It is in these areas that the bandits operate, settle, steal animals, kill, and destroy the livelihoods of farmers. It is there that we are asking for large-scale operations,” he emphasized.
For more than 16 months, the municipality of Kenscoff has been facing the persistent presence of armed groups in several of its localities.
