The Gang Suppression Force (FRG) announced on Thursday, May 14, the arrival in Port-au-Prince of Mongolian Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri, the new commander of the force deployed in Haiti. In a post published on the social network X, the FRG stated that it welcomes ‘Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri as the commander of the force.’ According to this note, the Mongolian officer has ‘more than 30 years of experience in military command and United Nations peacekeeping operations.’The FRG also emphasizes that his arrival in the Haitian capital “marks a key step in strengthening the operational presence” of the mission in Haiti.
Before his arrival in Haiti, Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri held the position of Force Commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), a post to which he was appointed by the UN Secretary-General in January 2024. According to the United Nations, the Mongolian officer has participated in eight UN and NATO peacekeeping or support operations, notably in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Western Sahara, and South Sudan.
