The 2026 edition of Livres en folie will welcome 126 authors for signings and will offer 1,194 titles.
The 2026 edition of Livres en folie will welcome 126 authors for signings and will offer 1,194 titles. These figures were announced by Max Chauvet, director of the daily Le Nouvelliste, invited to the show Panel Magik on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
Despite the daily difficulties, authors do not give up their pens and continue to offer reflections exploring different literary genres. This year, for its 32nd edition, Livres en folie will put 1,194 titles on sale, a significant increase compared to the last edition, which had brought together nearly 80 authors for signings.”I did not expect this. Despite such a difficult year, such a disrupted period. I am amazed at the strength of the authors to overcome all obstacles and to do everything to participate in Livres en folie,” testified Max Chauvet, bowing before the sacrifices made by the authors.
“In these difficult times, where almost everything is reduced to individual survival, maintaining this ability to want to produce and share with the public is extraordinary,” praised Mr. Chauvet.
Max Chauvet also emphasized that the 126 signed authors will be at the center of the event. They will be positioned in the heart of the El Rancho Convention Center, where the fair will take place this year.Books in frenzy under the sign of intergenerational transmission
This year, the guest of honor at Livres en folie is none other than René Depestre, at the age of 101. The organizers chose the author of the famous Hadriana dans tous mes rêves in order to pay him a well-deserved tribute for his entire career.
Although he will not be able to travel from France to participate in the fair, René Depestre will be well represented through his works, which will be on sale at the fair. About ten of his books, published in Haiti or abroad, will be available online as well as in their physical versions on June 4. Max Chauvet also indicated that René Depestre’s first two titles, Étincelles and Gerbe de sang, have been reprinted and compiled into a single volume for the occasion.
The invitation extended to René Depestre is not trivial. In 1945 and 1946, when he published his first poetry collections, the writer was only 21 years old. The organizers see in this invitation a sign of intergenerational transmission. “It will be an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the young, because we want to ensure that the next generation is indeed present,” said Max Chauvet, highlighting in passing that children’s books and authors under 25 will be showcased. According to Mr. Chauvet, among the 1,194 titles that will be available at the fair, at least 25% belong to children’s literature. He said he hopes that this stance in favor of the young will encourage a taste for reading and help new talents to emerge. At this 32nd edition, among the young authors who will be present is Stessa May-Irah Bigord. At only eleven years old, she will sign her second book, Winter Flower. Last year, she was already there to sign The Adventures of Mr. Potato. On his side, Djean Guerry Charles, 17 years old, will sign his first novel, 7 Minutes to Love.
