On Magik9 radio, Philippe Vorbe took a long look back at his time before analyzing Group C. Let’s focus on his diagnosis and recommendations for Haitian football.
A former player for Violette Athletic Club, Philippe Vorbe was a major star for the Haitian national team during the 1970s. He participated in Haiti’s epic 1974 World Cup campaign, playing in three matches. During Emmanuel Sanon’s legendary goal against Italy, Philippe Vorbe provided the decisive assist.
As a winner of the 1973 Concacaf Cup, which served as a qualifier, Philippe Vorbe suggests that something significant is in store for us in the coming days, something that will be more or less decisive and decisive, and that a powerful momentum is about to begin.Philippe Vorbe pointed out that FIFA subsidizes the Haitian teams. “We have been subsidized by FIFA for years, to the tune of $1 million per year. We have the means to pay for all the competition luxuries we want. We can add our own touch, but it is FIFA that subsidizes us.”Speaking to Radio Magik9, Philippe Vorbe stated that all Haitian youth and women’s national teams, all matches involving the U14, U17, U20, and senior national teams, player contributions, and airfare are all covered by FIFA’s budget. “So, we were taken care of by the FIFA program,” he declared.
“Now, we don’t have a federation. FIFA accepts a committee on board (the Normalization Committee) that it appointed itself. We have a mentor. That’s all,” explained Philippe Vorbe, who offered a lengthy assessment of Haitian football. After the World Cup, an executive committee will decide on the future of Haitian football. The Sylvio Cator Stadium was built in the early 1950s. Originally seating 10,000, the Parc Leconte (its former name) was expanded to 12,000. But at that time, the population was around 300,000.
“We had 26,000 Haitians in Miami who came to watch the national team match. For more than 10 million people in Haiti now, a stadium like Sylvio Cator won’t be sufficient,” he explained on the program Panel Magik on June 10, 2026.“We dream of professional football. Who will build a stadium? Who will feed the players? Who will sponsor them? A professional team plays with at least 25 players. Who will pay the salaries of 25 players?” asked Philippe Vorbe. These are the problems facing Haitian football.
The only Haitian player inducted into the CONCACAF Hall of Fame in 2018, Philippe Vorbe advises us to keep our feet on the ground. “The Haitian national team is a consolation for us,” he maintained.
