Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he is willing to reinstate sanctions on Russian oil now that oil prices are down, just after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the G7 summit in France.
“We will be able to do it because oil is flowing freely now. We had suspended sanctions because we obviously didn’t want to penalize the United States,” said the American president, but “we will soon be able” to reintroduce them.
The United States has suspended certain sanctions on Russian oil since the start of the war in Ukraine, to counter the surge in crude prices caused by the conflict with Iran.
