On the eve of the highly anticipated match between Haiti and Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Haitian Consulate General in New York hosted a reception called ‘Between Heritage and Passion’ on Thursday, June 18, at the W Hotel in Philadelphia. The event brought together government officials, including Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, as well as the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Planning, Haitian Affairs Abroad, and Women’s Affairs.
Representatives of the Haitian diaspora, actors from the nonprofit world, and several former stars of national football, including Jean-Claude Désir, known as ‘Tom Pouce,’ Ernst Jean-Baptiste, known as ‘Zé Nono,’ and Goebbels Cadet, also took part in this evening.
Centered around football, Haitian culture, and heritage, the reception provided a setting for gathering and celebrating national identity, while highlighting the connections between Haiti, its diaspora, and international partners as this historic 2026 World Cup match approached.
