A mission led at the UN aims to strengthen international partnerships, rally technical support, and involve the diaspora in the future national strategy to fight corruption.

The Anti-Corruption Unit is taking part in a series of high-level meetings held at the United Nations headquarters in New York from June 22 to 26, 2026, to strengthen international cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The Haitian delegation is led by the ULCC’s Director General, Hans Jacques Ludwig Joseph.

According to the institution, this mission is supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and is part of the efforts by Haitian authorities to boost transparency, public integrity, and good governance. The ULCC says that this participation will also help assess the progress Haiti has made in implementing the United Nations Convention against Corruption, the main international legal tool for preventing and fighting corruption.During its stay, the Haitian delegation is expected to take part in several strategic meetings with different permanent missions to the United Nations.

Exchanges are particularly planned with the diplomatic representations of Haiti, Canada, France, Latvia, and Panama.

The discussions will mainly focus on strengthening international cooperation, providing technical and financial assistance, as well as developing the institutional capacities needed to prevent and combat corruption.

The mission will also include participating in a briefing by United Nations Security Council experts on the challenges posed by corruption in contexts of institutional fragility and the mechanisms the UN system has put in place to address it.According to the ULCC, a special session will also be devoted to adapting international anti-corruption mechanisms to the specific realities of Haiti.

One of the main parts of this mission involves preparing the future National Strategy to Fight CorruptionIn this regard, the delegation will organize a consultation with members of the Haitian diaspora at Brooklyn College.

The goal is to gather the diaspora’s recommendations, proposals, and experiences to ensure broader participation in developing this strategy, which is intended to guide the fight against corruption over the next ten years.

For the ULCC, this approach reflects the authorities’ desire to involve citizens, international partners, and Haitian communities living abroad more in defining public policies related to governance and transparency.

The institution believes that strengthening international cooperation and leveraging the skills of the diaspora are important ways to improve the effectiveness of Haiti’s mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption..
