The road development work connecting the Airport Roundabout to 5th Street Boulevard is continuing to progress in Cap-Haïtien. Since Sunday, July 26, 2026, the technical teams have started horizontal signage operations, considered one of the final stages of this infrastructure project.
Restarted on May 30 by the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communications (MTPTC), Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, this project is part of the preparations for the city’s patronal festival as well as the “Government’s efforts to improve urban mobility and road safety.”Placed under the supervision of the Northern Departmental Directorate of the MTPTC, the work focuses on the complete rehabilitation of this strategic route, particularly through the laying of a bituminous concrete pavement, followed by the installation of road signage.
“This road is being carried out in strict compliance with all technical standards because we want it to become a benchmark for the quality of infrastructure that Haiti deserves,” said Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis during an assessment visit on July 15.
According to the MTPTC, this infrastructure will help improve traffic flow on this particularly busy corridor, enhance the safety of drivers and pedestrians, facilitate access to the airport area, and support the region’s economic activities.Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis took the opportunity to reaffirm the government’s priorities regarding infrastructure.
‘Our goal is to provide the country with modern, reliable, and durable infrastructure that meets the needs of the population and supports the development of the regions,’ he emphasized.
However, market occupation along the Littoral remains one of the main challenges to ensure the full functionality of this new infrastructure.
Every day, many merchants occupy a significant portion of the roadway, greatly reducing the space available for vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This situation risks undermining the expected benefits of this modernization project in terms of mobility and road safety.When asked about this issue, the president of the Cap-Haïtien Municipal Commission, Michel Saint-Croix, said that rehabilitating the market is an essential condition for the full success of this project.
“There’s no question of moving them before the market is rehabilitated. The Minister of Public Works must immediately mobilize the necessary resources to start the project, which has already been prepared and submitted to the Prime Minister,” said Michel Saint-Croix.
