The downtown area of Saint-Marc has been under the influence of scenes of violence since Saturday, May 3, 2026. Unidentified individuals, masked and armed with sticks, machetes, and clubs, spontaneously took over National Road Number 1 and the cross streets, claiming to act “with the aim of forcing the municipality to show solidarity with the locality of Jean-Denis,” which in recent days has been the victim of repeated massacres carried out by the Gran Grif gang from Savien and Kokorat without ras.
Public services have been targeted, financial institutions have suffered serious attacks, educational institutions have received threats, and public market merchants have been forced to go home. The downtown area is clogged with burning tires, vehicle carcasses, and barricades made of tables and sawhorses.Mobilized this Monday, May 4, 2026, by the Association of Victims of the Jean-Denis Massacres (AVMJ), the residents of Jean-Denis who attacked last Saturday the SOCOLAVIM, the Saint-Marc police station, the residence of Myriam Fièvre, the president of the interim executive commission, and the Brandy Hotel, where the principal police commissioner of the district, Lyvenson Gauthier, was present, threw stones and bottles at the main buildings of the city’s economic enterprises, notably SOGEBANK.
