The day before, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had called on foreign embassies to evacuate their staff and nationals from the Ukrainian capital due to the ‘inevitability of retaliatory strikes’ if Ukraine were to disrupt on Saturday, notably through a drone attack, the parade celebrating the USSR’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945.
