Activities at the Port-au-Prince port and the Varreux oil terminal are almost at a standstill due to ongoing clashes following the Belekou gang’s massacre of residents of Wharf Jérémie, who took to the streets in a ‘rara’ after the Haiti vs Scotland match last Saturday, Le Nouvelliste learned on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

“There are clashes between armed gangs. This makes operations extremely difficult, but the port isn’t closed,” said a source close to the APN on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. “Freight vehicles and containers have stayed away from the port because of this violence. Operations are ongoing at the port. Operators have been able to come, but with difficulty. The police sent armored vehicles yesterday. This Tuesday morning, there were a lot of shots fired,” said another source from Caribbean Port Services (CPS).“The whole area is at a standstill. We haven’t worked since Saturday,” said a source close to the Varreux oil terminal on Tuesday late afternoon. “There has been a presence of PNH armored vehicles and also coast guards today,” our source continued. The halt of operations in Varreux is starting to affect regions including the far North, worries a source close to an oil company. The violence broke out on Saturday. Hundreds of residents of Wharf Jérémie and Chancerelles celebrating after the Haiti vs Scotland match went to Belekou. Benjy’s gang opened fire on the crowd. There are at least thirty dead and around fifty missing. The toll could be even higher. Several dozen participants in this rara are being held in Belekou. In response, the men of Micanor’s gang from Wharf Jérémie –who barely survived the shooting — attacked Belekou’s gang, described human rights activist Fritznel Pierre about the events that happened in Cité Soleil on the morning show of Radio Magik 9 on Tuesday morning.
