Haitian authorities want to involve Vodou representatives in efforts related to security, social cohesion, and preparing for the upcoming elections.
The Haitian government continued its dialogue with different parts of society by meeting, on Wednesday, with representatives of the Vodou sector to discuss issues related to peace, security, and national reconciliation.
The meeting was led by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Raina Forbin, also present.
According to authorities, this initiative is part of the government’s strategy to strengthen national unity and encourage broader participation from different sectors of society in the country’s stabilization efforts.
The government believes that dialogue with religious, community, and social actors is an important element in finding sustainable solutions to the crisis Haiti is going through.During the discussions, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirmed his administration’s determination to continue actions aimed at restoring security across the entire country. The head of government mentioned gradually strengthening the capacities of security forces, improving institutional coordination, and mobilizing the necessary resources to fight insecurity. The talks also addressed the need to create a favorable environment for holding free, credible, inclusive, and secure elections. For the authorities, returning to constitutional order remains one of the priorities of the ongoing transition. The participants also highlighted the importance of promoting social cohesion in a context marked by violence, population displacement, and institutional fractures.According to the government, national reconciliation will need to rely on an inclusive dialogue involving all of the country’s religious, cultural, and social perspectives.Vodou sector representatives said they’re willing to help out with peace efforts, social mediation, and raising community awareness. They also confirmed they’re ready to work with other national players to promote getting along and mutual respect in communities. The talks also stressed the importance of keeping victims of violence at the heart of social rebuilding and peace initiatives. By the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to set up a follow-up system to keep the dialogue going and make it easier to put the discussed recommendations into action. The government used the opportunity to once again call for national unity and everyone pitching in to help stabilize the country.For the authorities, the participation of all sectors of society remains essential to building a safer, more stable Haiti that is more focused on the future.
