Essential pillars of the Haitian health system, nurses are not always the most visible. Yet, their role remains central in hospitals. In this issue, Le Nouvelliste collected the testimonies of two nurses working in medical facilities in Cité Soleil during the recent armed attacks.
On the night of Saturday, May 9 to Sunday, May 10, 2026, armed gangs from a coalition comprising the criminal organizations Chen Mechan, 400 Mawozo, and Taliban launched an offensive against the north of Cité Soleil.At the Fontaine Hospital Center (CHF), one of the nurses present explains that they experienced an intense day despite the shootings. “Because of the clashes, we had to reassure the patients and calm them down,” confides the young nurse.
