In the heights of Kenscoff, ‘like in boxing’

The police are out on the ground in Kenscoff.

“The law enforcement forces are on the ground in Kenscoff. We are fighting. It’s like boxing; sometimes your opponent lands hits, but we are fighting with increasingly seasoned police and military,” a government source told Le Nouvelliste on Thursday late afternoon, while it is still difficult to determine the human toll of a new bloody attack in Robin, a neighborhood of this town perched in the hills of Pétion-Ville.“The police are working. There are several units on site. It’s a fight against criminals. It’s like boxing. After landing twenty-two punches on your opponent, you might take a hit yourself. If it were easy, the problem would already be solved. It’s a battle. It’s a fight,” stressed this source, who hopes that the new recruits from FAD’H and the PNH will be available much faster.

“But we’ll have to wait for the training to be completed,” she admitted, calling in passing the renewal of the Gang Suppression Force’s mandate, which expires at the end of September, “existential.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, about three hundred Sri Lankans arrived in Port-au-Prince to join the ranks of the FRG. If we go by the deployment of the total force, 5,500 members, after the mandate renewal, elements of the contingent, including some from Côte d’Ivoire, are expected in Port-au-Prince in the coming weeks.

The U.S. ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, visited Haiti. “This is part of the efforts for the renewal of the FRG. He met with the Prime Minister, asked questions, and looked around. It’s always better to come and see on the ground,” said our source, who assures that across the board, Haitian security forces are doing their best.
