The town of Kenscoff is still facing insecurity as the elections approach.
The municipality of Kenscoff continues to face insecurity as elections approach. The town’s mayor, Massillon Jean, spoke about a new attack carried out by armed bandits on Friday, August 7, in the Viard 2 area.
According to the mayor, police officers fell into an ambush set by armed men, who threw Molotov cocktails at a vehicle of the Haitian National Police (PNH). Three officers were reportedly injured during the incident, he said. However, a police source cited by Le Nouvelliste reported only one officer injured.
“There were no human casualties,” Massillon Jean pointed out, adding that the police were able to call for reinforcements to push back the attackers.The mayor continues to call for the support of police authorities in order to regain control of the commune and its various sections. He particularly encourages the implementation of regular missions in the affected areas and asks the Ministry of Public Works, Transport, and Communications (MTPTC) to rehabilitate certain roads to allow law enforcement to access the communal sections more easily and carry out their operations there.
Massillon Jean also wants police operations to be maintained over a long enough period, ranging from three to eight days, in order, in his view, to sustainably address the security problem in Kenscoff.Several municipal areas under threat from gangs
The mayor specifically mentions the localities of Obléon, Nouvelle-Tourraine, Viard, Tête Cabris, Godet, Kafou Bèt, and Bongard as zones heavily affected by gang presence. He urges people to be cautious and advises residents not to go to areas considered dangerous. Even those who continue to live there should, according to him, remain very vigilant.
“The bandits are never friends of the population. At any moment, they can cause trouble in the area,” he warns.
The mayor also reminds that since January 27, 2025, the police have reclaimed certain areas and are carrying out consolidation operations there. Mr. Jean encourages, however, the authorities to continue these efforts and to further equip the police with logistical resources to carry out their operations effectively.
