Iran stated on Monday that it is imposing fees for ‘navigation services,’ rather than tolls, on ships transiting through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, amid negotiations with the United States to bring a lasting end to the war.
‘The services provided, namely navigation services as well as measures necessary to protect the environment of the Strait of Hormuz, the Persian Gulf, and the Sea of Oman, require the collection of certain fees,’ said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghai, during his weekly press briefing. He nevertheless assured that Iran ‘is not seeking to collect tolls.’
