Around 17,500 people, or more than 4,200 households, have been forced to relocate over the past two weeks in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, particularly in the commune of Cité Soleil. These new estimates were provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and reported by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, during a press briefing held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. More than 80% of the displaced have taken refuge in 33 sites, while others have found shelter with already vulnerable families, according to the IOM.
