The U.S. military announced Tuesday evening that it had carried out a series of strikes against Iran, in a statement released on X.

“On June 9, U.S. forces conducted strikes in self-defense against Iran, at the direction of the commander-in-chief, in response to the downing the previous day of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter,” wrote CENTCOM, the Central Command for the Middle East.

“CENTCOM forces struck Iranian air defense installations, ground control posts, and surveillance radar sites located near the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement continued.
