American Airlines will be returning to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, starting November 1, 2026, the company announced this Friday.

American Airlines will make its return to Cap-Haitien, Haiti, starting November 1, 2026, it announced this Friday.

For Frantz Duval, editor-in-chief of the newspaper Le Nouvelliste, this announcement “is the first victory of the Haitian football team in the 2026 World Cup.” The journalist believes that this announcement is part of the positive effects of Haiti qualifying for a World Cup, a first in 52 years. The American airline, which had stopped its operations to the country more than a year ago, will resume daily nonstop service between Miami and Cap-Haïtien starting November 1, according to the Miami Herald.American Airlines will operate a 172-seat Boeing 737, with 156 in economy class and 16 in business class. American Airlines’ return to Cap-Haïtien—after flying to Haiti for 50 years before the suspension in December 2024—comes as U.S. commercial flights to the country’s main airport, Port-au-Prince’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport, remain suspended due to worsening gang violence in the capital since November 2024.

Before this suspension, Fort Lauderdale-based Spirit Airlines was the only major commercial airline serving Cap-Haïtien.In a statement, American Airlines said that Haiti currently represents the largest Caribbean market in terms of passenger demand that isn’t served by a U.S. airline.

The airline also pointed out that South Florida is home to the biggest Haitian-American community, while residents of New York and Orlando, which also have large Haitian populations, will benefit from “convenient one-stop connections” to Cap-Haïtien.”We welcome the resumption of American Airlines flights to Maracaibo, Venezuela, and Cap-Haïtien, Haiti. These routes will help bring families together, support economic opportunities, and strengthen the long-standing ties between South Florida and these vibrant communities,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Danielle Levine Cava.
