Haiti is getting ready to host, this Monday, June 29, 2026, the very first National Investment Forum, organized as part of the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative. It’s an important event for the Haitian private sector and its European partners. The event will take place after Haitian private sector business associations expressed their desire to build an operational partnership with the European Union to drive sustainable and inclusive reconstruction.
“This forum aims to highlight the possible opportunities in Haiti for implementing the European Union’s Global Gateway strategy and thereby develop a renewed, mutually beneficial partnership by mobilizing both public and private resources,” said the European Union delegation in Haiti in a statement.”This first National Investment Forum is organized thanks to the support of the Haitian government and the coordination work carried out by the Office of the National Coordinator (BON) in connection with the Delegation of the European Union and its member states,” the statement specifies.
“This first National Investment Forum is organized thanks to the support of the Haitian government and the coordination work carried out by the Office of the National Coordinator (BON) in connection with the Delegation of the European Union and its member states,” the statement specifies.”With an investment mobilization capacity of 400 billion euros by 2027, the Global Gateway is the European Union’s flagship initiative to promote sustainable partnerships and support the completion of major projects, like rehabilitating ports and airports, developing renewable energies, free zones, the blue economy, agriculture, the agri-food sector…” announces the EU delegation.
Clear goals, targeted sectors
The Haiti National Investment Forum 2026 has several goals. First, it aims to create a space for dialogue and cooperation to encourage the emergence of strategic partnerships where the Haitian private sector and the Haitian government play a central role. Finally, it will seek to position Haiti as a key partner for the European Union within the Global Gateway initiative, according to the statement.
Three priority sectors, identified
jointly by Haiti and the EU, will guide the forum’s work. “Transport and Logistics: ports, airports, logistics corridors, and regional connectivity; Energy and Extractive Industries: electrification, energy transition, and development of mining potential; Agriculture and Agri-food: value chains, naturally organic farming, Caribbean and European markets.”The Basics of Financing
Monday’s plenary session of the forum will be focused on the topic of financing. ‘Responsible and sustainable investments, how to build partnerships and mobilize financing mechanisms?’ is the theme chosen by the organizers.
This session will bring together the European Investment Bank, MEDEF International, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the European Commission through the Global Gateway Investment Hub Secretariat. The goal is to clarify the available financial instruments, access conditions, and collaboration methods between public and private actors to bring identified projects to life.
Three working groups
The first discussion panel of the forum will focus on energy. Titled ‘The Challenges of Rebuilding and Recapitalizing the Haitian Economy: What Opportunities for European Partners?’, this panel will cover renewable energies, networks, and interconnections. The MEF will present the Climate Prosperity Plan, and the IDB will showcase its Northeast Renewable Energy Project. The panel will include ANARSE, the MTPTC energy unit, technical units from the MEF and the EU, as well as private actors specialized in off-grid solutions. The second panel will discuss transport, infrastructure, and connectivity. Under the theme ‘Haiti’s Return to the Global Economy: What Partnerships with European Groups?’, this panel will offer a strategic vision: to make Haiti a regional hub in the Caribbean, equipped with modern infrastructure such as ports, airports, logistics corridors, and free trade zones. The third panel will focus on agriculture and the agri-food sector. Organized around the question ‘For an innovative regional policy with the European outermost regions: a win-win bet?’, this panel will explore Haitian agricultural sectors, their naturally organic potential, and their access to Caribbean and European markets. AFD, Proparco, and representatives from the private sector will discuss suitable financing mechanisms.
The day will bring together Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, Hélène Roos, Ambassador of the European Union to Haiti, Félix Fernandez-Shaw, Director of DG INTPA at the European Commission, as well as the relevant sectoral ministers. The invitation of Jacques Attali, economist, engineer, and former French State Council advisor, as a special guest highlights the international significance that the organizers want to give to the event.
The event also enjoys the support of several Haitian business organizations: CFHCI (Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), CCIO (Chamber of Commerce & Industry of the West), CCIH (Chamber of Commerce & Industry of Haiti), ADIH (Association of Industries of Haiti), APHA (Association of Ports of Haiti), ATH (Tourism Association of Haiti), and CCIHC (Haitian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry)
