The Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH) organized, both in person and online, on Friday, July 3, 2026, a tribute ceremony at the Asú conference hall in Pétion-Ville, “to honor the credit unions that stood out for their performance, rigor, and commitment to the best management practices, in accordance with cooperative principles.”

This official initiative “is a testament to the importance that the BRH places on good governance, transparency, careful risk management, and adherence to standards that contribute to the stability and credibility of the cooperative savings and credit sector,” said Mr. Jean René Pétion, the master of ceremonies.A general overview of the savings and credit cooperative sector was given by Mr. Jocelyn Jean-Baptiste, director of the general inspection of credit unions (DIGCP). In his context, he highlighted the difficulties the sector is facing “under the weight of socio-political and security turbulences over a long period, particularly in the West and Artibonite departments.” According to him, this situation explains “financial and economic losses, the displacement of members, and the loss of members’ economic and commercial activities.”
