Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is back in Port-au-Prince this Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after attending the 51st Regular Meeting of the CARICOM Heads of State and Government Conference, held from July 5 to 8 in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. He was welcomed by members of his government. At a press briefing in the Diplomatic Lounge of Toussaint Louverture Airport, the head of government highlighted the main outcomes of his trip.
“The head of the government said that his discussions with the regional leaders mainly focused on strengthening security, the migration situation of Haitian nationals, especially the end of TPS, as well as supporting the electoral process in Haiti. He also announced talks on renewing the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Force and fully deploying its personnel, while praising the ongoing support from Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Saint Lucia,” the Prime Minister’s office reported in a statementIn the health sector, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé announced that CARICOM has asked Haiti to send nurses to the community to address a shortage of healthcare personnel in this area. “CARICOM countries revealed that they had a deficit of nurses. In that sense, they wondered how Haiti could help them. CARICOM therefore openly asked Haiti to send nurses to the community. We agreed to send qualified nurses to all CARICOM countries. I’ve already had discussions on this with the Minister of Health, who is responsible for following up,” the Prime Minister said..The Prime Minister also mentioned new prospects for cooperation with Romania and South Korea in the areas of security, training, trade, and health.
Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also announced a donation of 500 tons of rice promised by the President of Guyana to support the government’s efforts in fighting food insecurity. “I thank the Guyanese authorities for this show of solidarity with Haiti,” said the Prime Minister.At the press conference, the head of government also mentioned having had meetings with other countries about resuming commercial flights with Haiti. “There was also talk of visa issuance for Haitians. There will be changes in the procedures for issuing visas to Haitians. Some countries are working on granting visas for our fellow citizens,” announced the Prime Minister, who chose not to go into details for now since the negotiations on this are still ongoing.
