A Haitian delegation led by the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communication (MTPTC), Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, along with the Director General of Conatel, Huguens Prévillon, and other members of the Haitian public administration, represented Haiti at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Forum 2026) held from July 6 to 10, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland, according to a Conatel press release dated July 13.
A Haitian delegation led by the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communication (MTPTC), Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, along with the Director General of Conatel, Huguens Prévillon, and other members of the Haitian public administration, represented Haiti at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Forum 2026) held from July 6 to 10, 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland, according to a Conatel press release dated July 13.The Haitian Minister of Public Works as well as the Director General of Conatel spoke on Thursday, July 9, 2026, during the high-level sessions of this forum co-organized by the ITU, UNESCO, UNDP, and UNCTAD. On this occasion, the statement says, they highlighted the transformative potential of emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence, whose positive effects on economic growth are significantly amplified when they are fully adopted and implemented by local actors.
The Haitian delegation also emphasized the need to promote the adoption and integration of information and communication technologies, particularly AI-based solutions, across all sectors of economic and social life. Areas like health, education, construction, outsourcing, hospitality, tourism, and more broadly the entire national productive sector are thus encouraged to invest in these tools to boost their productivity, competitiveness, and the quality of services provided to Haitian citizens.The Haitian state, through Conatel, reaffirms its commitment to fully playing its role as a regulator, ensuring the establishment of an environment conducive to inclusive, responsible, and sustainable digital development, according to the statement which also highlights that on the sidelines of this forum, Conatel and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) signed a memorandum of understanding on July 10, 2026, aimed at strengthening their bilateral cooperation.
Advanced discussions are also underway with several other telecommunications regulatory authorities with a view to concluding new cooperation agreements to benefit the growth of the Haitian digital sector, the Conatel statement concludes.
