The Haitian U20 team, ranked as the best team in the Caribbean, has qualified for the 2027 Pan American Games, which will take place in Peru from July 23 to August 8.
Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Concacaf U20 Championship against Costa Rica [1-1 (3-5)], the Haitian U20 team missed the train to the 2027 Azerbaijan World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. However, the Grenadiers still had time to catch the train to the Pan American Games.
The Concacaf U20 Championship also served as a qualifying tournament for the three competitions mentioned above: the Olympics, the U20 World Cup, and the Pan American Games. To reach the Olympics, you had to make it to the final. So, the two finalists (Mexico and the United States) earned their spot in the Olympics.As for the Under-20 World Cup, it’s the four semi-finalists of the Championship who qualify, namely Costa Rica, the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Unfortunately, Haiti’s loss in the quarter-finals against Costa Rica eliminated them from the race for qualification.
There were four spots up for grabs for the Pan American Games. The champion, the best Caribbean team, the best Central American team, and the best North American team got to go to these games. That’s how Concacaf determined the qualified teams.The best team in Central America is Costa Rica. In fact, they were the only Central American representative in the semifinals. The best team in the Caribbean is Haiti. The best team in North America is Mexico. They’re the champion team.
Since Mexico was already qualified as champions after their win against the United States (2-0), the last spot went to the United States, who were the other finalist. So, Concacaf will be represented by Haiti, Mexico, the United States, and Costa Rica at the 2027 Pan American Games.Haiti and Jamaica were the two Caribbean representatives in the second round. Since Jamaica fell 1-3 against Canada and Haiti lost its penalty shootout against Costa Rica, Haiti logically got the qualification ticket for the Caribbean.
Another opportunity is opening up for the young Grenadiers like Franco Célestin, Miguel Joseph, Emerson Laissé, Will Amstrong Leconte, Da-Benz Jacquet, Alcimé Arthur, Medinel Zamor, Carlos Albertos Bre, and the coaching staff led by Raúl Valentín Gonzalez Triana.
