FIFA boss Gianni Infantino announced on Saturday the withdrawal of the plan to open up the association to private investors, facing the threat of a UEFA boycott and the strong opposition of the Asian and American confederations.
“After carefully listening to all points of view, it became clear that the plan has caused divisions (…) that are no longer in the interest of the original goal,” Gianni Infantino said in a statement. “So this proposal will not be pursued.”
