Three major companies in the industrial sector, the Brasserie de la Couronne, the Barbancourt distillery, and the Brasserie Séjourné, issued a joint statement this Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to alert the authorities about the critical situation occurring around their facilities, between National Road No. 1 and Route 9 in the Cul-de-Sac plain.

Three major companies in the industrial sector, the Brasserie de la Couronne, the Barbancourt Distillery, and Brasserie Séjourné, issued a joint statement this Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to alert authorities about the critical situation occurring near their facilities, between National Road No. 1 and Route 9 in the Cul-de-Sac plain. After more than 4 days of intense violence, the signatories of the statement are skeptical about the precarious calm that remains in the area.

“Between April 18 and 21, armed groups clashed with extreme violence in the immediate vicinity of our companies, between National Road No. 1 and Route 9. Today, the calm remains fragile. Our employees, their families, and local residents are afraid to return. An area that was still functioning until recently is now at risk of becoming a new ‘lost territory’ at the gates of Toussaint Louverture International Airport,”warns business leaders, emphasizing that the National Police of Haiti cannot be held responsible for a material inability to intervene.

For the companies signing the statement, the heart of the problem is infrastructural. It is the national highway that paralyzes security, according to the signatories who have been operating in the area for several decades. “The observation is simple: National Road No. 1 is in such a state of degradation that armored vehicles cannot properly access points that are nonetheless strategic, such as the former Cazeau police station or the Ministry of Agriculture, without risking getting stuck.
