Tensions rose a notch this Sunday, May 31, at the Ayiti Cheri gymnasium on the occasion of the first leg of the finals of the Western Region Volleyball League (LVBRO). In an atmosphere befitting the event, the women’s and men’s finals offered two very different scenarios, yet equally rich in lessons before the return matches scheduled for June 4.
In the women’s category, the Tigresses achieved a true feat by defeating Magic at the end of an intense five-set match. After a difficult start, marked by Magic’s dominance in the first two sets (25-16, 25-22), the Tigresses found the necessary resources to turn the situation around.Boosted by better defensive organization and regained aggressiveness in attack, they won the third and fourth sets with an identical score of 25-17. In the decisive tie-break, the Tigresses continued their momentum to win 15-10 and secure a valuable 3-2 victory. This success allows them to take an important option in the race for the title, even though nothing is decided yet.
In the men’s final, Magic confirmed their status as favorites by dominating the Tigers with authority. The season leaders set the pace from the first exchanges and never allowed their opponents to hope for a comeback. Thanks to an effective attack and strong collective control, Magic won in straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-14). The Tigers tried to resist, particularly in the first set, but were unable to contain the offensive power of their opponents. This victory places Magic in a favorable position ahead of the second leg of the men’s final. However, the Tigers still have an opportunity to respond and reignite the suspense.
Attention is now turned to Thursday, June 4, the date set for the second finals. Starting at 3 p.m., the Ayiti Cheri gymnasium will host the matches that could either crown the champions of the 2025-2026 season or extend the suspense until a final showdown on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
