The National Police of Haiti (PNH) is intensifying its operations in several strategic areas of the capital. Images broadcast by the police institution and by some residents show progress in reclaiming downtown Port-au-Prince. Through videos, viral on social media in some cases, one can observe a downtown devastated after months of domination by armed gangs over these crucial sectors. The images present a striking picture: blown-out buildings, looted structures, vegetation invading deserted streets. The heart of Port-au-Prince resembles a city emerging from a war or a natural disaster. Yet, in this scene of desolation, law enforcement forces are advancing. Units are now patrolling several main streets of downtown such as Grand-Rue, Avenue N, Pont Saint-Gérard, Avenue Jean-Paul II, Marché Salomon, Rue Oswald Durand, among others. In this last area, the Faculty of Medicineand the pharmacy clearly bears the marks of the atrocities committed by the bandits.
Beyond street control, the PNH announced the takeover of several large public and private buildings. After the images showing, a few days ago, the police presence within the Faculty of Human Sciences, INAGHEI, and IERAH, located on Christophe Avenue, more recently, there are also images of the building of Radio Television Caraïbes.
