The University of the Dr. Aristide Foundation (UNIFA) launched its scientific week this Monday with, on the first day, a conference on slavery and a raffle for the awarding of scholarships to students.
The University of the Dr. Aristide Foundation launched, this Monday, May 18, 2026, the week of its scientific fair, which will run from May 18 to May 22, 2026. To kick off this event that promotes science and knowledge, an official ceremony was organized at the university auditorium, attended notably by senior officials and students of the university, as well as curious visitors and guests who had come for the occasion. It was a busy cultural program, but full of symbolism, that marked this launch day. In the opening, pieces performed by the institution’s choir, including the national anthem and the youth anthem, in a festive atmosphere that generated great enthusiasm among the audience. Then some choreographies. The most remarkable: a performance with dancers holding signs, carrying messages with strong political connotations. Signs on which one could read, among other things, the word RESTITUTIONand DIGNITY.
But the most remarkable activity of the day was the lecture given on the theme: “Law as a Tool of Slavery.” This presentation, delivered by Me Martine Chevalier, aimed to demonstrate how the law, over several centuries, served as a mechanism to institutionalize and perpetuate slavery, which the speaker describes as “the most radical violation of human dignity”..
