If the Ministry of Economy and Finance initiated discussions with the Provisional Electoral Council on the budget on Monday, May 25, the electoral institution is still awaiting the executive’s decision on the electoral decree. Sources at the PEC told Le Nouvelliste that the government has not yet held any meetings with them regarding the draft decree…
For now, our sources at the Electoral Council only acknowledge the existence of the draft electoral decree submitted to the executive just over a month ago. Since last weekend, another proposed electoral decree attributed to the executive has been circulating on social media.”We had officially submitted the draft electoral decree to the government a month ago. Since then, we have had no feedback on the document. If the executive has objections or modifications to make to the draft decree, it will do so officially as well. But until now, the CEP has had no exchange with the government in this regard,” an electoral advisor explained to Le Nouvelliste. This electoral advisor points out that without this legal framework, the CEP cannot finalize the electoral calendar…

We are going to review the forecasts for all the items,” the electoral advisor told the newspaper.
“We had a meeting on several points including the budget for electoral operations. He cited, as an example, support from MINUSTAH, USAID, the travel of electoral advisors to the regions with fuel prices that have significantly increased over 10 yearsThe voter registration that the CEP had not carried out in 2016, he added, also has costs in the budget. “We also plan to give our compatriots in the diaspora the possibility to vote, which did not exist in 2016. This also has costs. The CEP also added vote counting offices in the departments,” our source emphasized.
At first, the CEP had submitted an electoral budget of 250 million dollars to the government. The Prime Minister had deemed it unacceptable. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé was also not satisfied with the second budget proposal of 225 million dollars from the electoral institution.
The discussions started on Monday between the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the electoral institution should allow the election budget to be revised downward.…
