Sunderland AFC’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the Premier League qualified them for the 2026/2027 Europa League. The same fate for SCU Torreense Dany Jean, champion of the Portuguese Cup.
Sunderland AFC against Chelsea FC was one of the highlights of the 38th and final day of the Premier League. The Sunderland team won 2-1 with goals from Trai Hume (25′) and Malo Gusto (50′, own goal). Cole Palmer (56′) was Chelsea’s sole scorer.
At the Stadium of Light, Wilson Isidor’s teammates secured a place in the Europa League on Sunday, May 24, 2026. A story of two seasons: exactly one year ago, Sunderland AFC achieved promotion to the Premier League. And one year later, the Black Cats purr their way into Europe for the first time in 52 years.Sunderland beat Newcastle twice this season and completed the double over Chelsea (win in the first leg, win in the return leg), a feat they had not accomplished since the 2000-01 season. With that, Manchester United’s 3-0 victory over Brighton and Brentford’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool, Sunderland finished in 7th place and secured qualification for the Europa League. After eight years away from the English elite, today’s hosts join the continental stage in the season following their promotion. Excellent achievement for Wilson Isidor and company. It should be noted that the Haitian international, Isidor, played 29 minutes in this last matchday with an 80% pass completion rate.
A title for Dany Jean
SCU Torreense claimed the championship title against Sporting Club Portugal, who were defeated 2-1 in the final of the Portuguese Cup on Sunday, May 24, 2026. At the Estadio Nacional, the Torreense team had to wait until extra time to acquire this trophy.Kévin Zohi, scorer in the 4th minute of the game, opened the hostilities for SCU Torreense. Luis Suárez, who is not El Pistolero, equalized for Sporting in the second half (1-1, 54th minute). This Suárez is a 28-year-old Colombian forward. By the end of regular time, there was no change. This led us to the two periods of extra time.
Stopira, from a penalty, gave SCU Torreense the victory in the 113th minute. He received a yellow card immediately after for his celebration (taking off his shirt). Understanding nonetheless! In the end, SCU Torreense defeated their opponent and sat on the throne of the Portuguese Cup. Runner-up in 1955/56, this is SCU Torreense’s first Portuguese Cup in history. The Haitian international forward Dany Jean, not called up to the Haitian national team to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, played 57 minutes in this final. He was substituted by Ismaïl Seydi. Dany Jean played six matches in the Portuguese Cup this season, scoring 1 goal.
If Wilson Isidor and Dany Jean remain in their respective teams’ squads, two Haitians will compete in the Europa League next season. They will not be the first, as Donald Guerrier played in it with Qarabag FK in 2020/21.
