Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé took part on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, in the official ceremony celebrating Canada’s national day, held at the residence of the Canadian ambassador in Haiti. The event coincided with the end of André François Giroux’s mission, who is thus concluding his diplomatic stay in Haiti, the Prime Minister’s office noted in a statement.
“In his speech, Ambassador Giroux reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to continue supporting Haiti, particularly in the areas of security, democratic governance, and strengthening the rule of law, while also praising the quality of the relationship between the two countries,” the Canadian diplomat said at the ceremony, which brought together members of the diplomatic and consular corps, representatives of international organizations, as well as high-ranking Haitian and foreign figures.
“On behalf of the government of the Republic of Haiti, the Prime Minister sent his warm congratulations to the Canadian government and people on the occasion of their national holiday. He highlighted the deep ties of friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Haiti and Canada, reminding that this partnership is an essential lever for the country’s stabilization, institutional strengthening, and development efforts,” the Prime Minister’s office said in a statement.“The head of the government also expressed his gratitude for Canada’s ongoing support for Haiti’s national priorities and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to continue strengthening this strategic cooperation, in a spirit of trust, mutual respect, and shared responsibility,” the statement emphasizes.
“On the occasion of Canada’s national day, the Prime Minister extends his wishes for peace, prosperity, and success to the Canadian government and people, while also celebrating a lasting friendship that serves the common interests of both nations,” the statement concludes.
