“Considering the historical ties of brotherhood, friendship, and cooperation that unite Mexico and Peru, they have agreed, as of this date, to resume diplomatic relations between the two states,” the statement said. Peru had condemned Mexico for granting political asylum to its former Prime Minister Betssy Chavez, who had taken refuge at the Mexican embassy in Lima.
She left for Mexico on Friday after obtaining a safe-conduct, President Sheinbaum announced at her daily press conference.
