Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé and several members of his government, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Religious Affairs, Raina Forbin, attended the official reception organized by the French Embassy in Haiti for the French National Day on Tuesday, July 14. Alongside the French Ambassador to Haiti, Antoine Michon, the Spanish Ambassador to Haiti, Marco Antonio Peñín Toledano, the European Union Ambassador, Hélène Roos, as well as many figures from the diplomatic corps and civil society, also attended the event held at the Montana Hotel. In his speech, Ambassador Michon highlighted the quality of French-Haitian relations. “The French diplomat emphasized the efforts made by the Haitian government to restore security, strengthen institutions, and create the conditions for a sustainable return to democratic order,” the Prime Minister’s office reported in a statement after the ceremony.

Speaking in turn, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé, according to the statement, paid tribute to the French people and to the universal values upheld by the French Revolution.

“July 14, 1789 reminds us that no society prospers without freedom, that no authority earns respect without popular legitimacy, and that no future is built without dignity. With this shared memory in mind, the Haitian government solemnly joins in celebrating the National Day of the French Republic,” said the head of government in the statement, praising the ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

Alix Didier Fils-Aimé also mentioned the unique history that links France and Haiti, as well as their shared desire to strengthen their partnership. “The Prime Minister specifically welcomed the establishment of the French-Haitian joint commission dedicated to examining the issue of the double independence debt, while calling for a deepening of bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest for the benefit of both peoples,” the statement reports.“On the occasion of the National Day of the French Republic, I reaffirm Haiti’s commitment to the universal values of liberty, equality, and fraternity that inspire our two peoples. I salute the French state, its President, its Government, and the French people, and I reiterate my desire to strengthen the strategic partnership between Haiti and France around security, development, and investment, while expressing my gratitude for France’s constant support of our efforts to restore peace, strengthen the rule of law, and build a more stable and prosperous future for our Nation,” wrote Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé on his X account this Tuesday.
