U.S. Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz paid a visit to Port-au-Prince. The second-in-command of American diplomacy had working meetings on Wednesday, July 8, and Thursday, July 9, 2026. According to a government source contacted by Le Nouvelliste, Ambassador Waltz’s visit is part of efforts aimed at renewing the mandate of the FRG.
“He wanted to see the reality on the ground with his own eyes. He had good discussions with us. We told him what we’re missing on the ground,” explained this contact, who believes that renewing the FRG’s mandate is “existential” for Haiti.Mike Waltz announced his visit to Port-au-Prince on his X account. “Soldiers from the entire international community are on the ground to ensure a safer future for Haiti and the whole region. Important trip to Port-au-Prince to see the positive impact of sharing responsibilities and the UN-mandated anti-gang force,” he captioned a video in which he explains, from the Vertières base, the goals of this mission led by a Mongolian commander and made up of around 10 countries.The diplomat released another video warning criminals, specifically naming Jimmy Chérisier, known as Barbecue, about the imminent FRG operations. “Notice to thugs and gangs in Haiti: the UN-mandated Gang Suppression Force is going to restore stability in Haiti, stop the massive illegal immigration to the United States, and eradicate the chaos running rampant across the region,” Waltz wrote.
