Since the recovery of international tourism, the Dominican Republic has maintained steady tourism growth, regularly setting new attendance records despite global economic uncertainty, inflation in its main source markets, and geopolitical challenges affecting travel worldwide. One of the main factors behind this success lies in the development of its international flight network connecting travelers from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Latin America. At the same time, ongoing investments in hotels and tourist resorts, as well as the development of emerging destinations, have boosted the country’s appeal.
While Punta Cana remains the country’s flagship destination, tourism authorities have stepped up promotion of Samaná, Miches, Puerto Plata, Pedernales, Jarabacoa, Constanza, and La Romana, offering visitors a wider range of experiences, including ecotourism, adventure travel, gastronomy, cultural tourism, luxury travel, and sporting events.Tourism continues to play a central role in the Dominican economy, supporting thousands of jobs and boosting growth in hotels, transportation, restaurants, retail, construction, and other service sectors. This industry has also attracted significant domestic and foreign investment, strengthening the country’s position as one of the Caribbean’s most attractive tourist markets.
This positive trend continued in 2026. Between January and May, the Dominican Republic welcomed 5.6 million visitors, including more than 1.2 million in January alone, a monthly record that promises another strong year for the sector.
