The Haitian and Chilean authorities reaffirm their willingness to deepen their cooperation, especially in protecting children, consular services, and keeping track of the Haitian community in Chile.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Raina Forbin, received an official delegation from the Chilean government on Saturday as part of a meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Chilean delegation was led by Marco Aguayo Tamsec, Chile’s ambassador to Honduras, accompanied by Manuel Rioseco.
This meeting follows the discussions held between Raina Forbin and her Chilean counterpart, Francisco Pérez Mackenna, on the sidelines of the 56th General Assembly of the Organization of American States recently held in Panama.
During the talks, Marco Aguayo Tamsec presented the findings of investigations carried out by Chilean authorities following reports concerning several Haitian minors living in Chile.According to Chilean authorities, all the children involved have been located, are regularly attending school, and are receiving appropriate follow-up from the relevant services.
The special envoy also reaffirmed the Chilean government’s willingness to strengthen its cooperation with Haiti in order to improve child protection mechanisms and information sharing between the two countries.
Minister Raina Forbin welcomed the approach of the Chilean authorities, believing that this direct communication helps build trust between the two countries.
She emphasized the importance of having official information on cases concerning Haitian nationals living abroad.During the meeting, the Haitian chancellor also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue strengthening the protection systems for Haitian citizens living outside the country.
She noted the authorities’ desire to modernize consular services and support initiatives aimed at making it easier for Haitians settled in Chile to regularize their status.The discussions also made it possible to explore several avenues for cooperation in consular, migration, and diplomatic matters.
At the end of the meeting, both governments expressed their desire to maintain a continuous dialogue based on trust, mutual respect, and cooperation.
The authorities believe that this partnership will help strengthen bilateral relations and better protect the interests of their respective citizens.
